Michael established Balmain’s first office in 1979. For 20 years he oversaw the Sydney office as Balmain consolidated its position as the market leader in commercial loan origination in NSW. In 2003 Michael became Executive Chairman of the Balmain Group and at that time passed the managing partner baton in Sydney office to Nick Beckett.

Michael still operates a large commercial loan book meeting the needs of long terms clients of the firm. He is ably assisted by his origination team partners Melanie Dennison, Marcus Fazzolari and Alex Papac.

Melanie Stone (nee Dennison) joined Balmain in January 2005. Prior to this, Melanie was a risk professional with KPMG and a professional athlete (sailing). She works both within Balmain Corporation in the Risk Management role and also as a loan originator for Balmain Commercial.

Melanie’s qualifications include Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Economics) from Monash University, Melbourne and a Masters Of Business Administration from Charles Sturt University NSW. She is individually accredited with the MFAA as a qualified mortgage professional.

After completing a degree in Applied Finance and Accounting at Macquarie University, Marcus joined Balmain in 2004 as a graduate analyst.

Having worked along side Michael Holm for some years, Marcus demonstrated a strong analytical skill set and understanding of debt and property markets. His depth of knowledge in property fundamentals and his modelling capabilities has enabled him provided workable solutions on standard property and structured finance/equity transactions. Having recently taken on the role as Manager of Structured Finance, Marcus is also involved in Balmain’s corporate finance working closely with Balmain's CEO Andrew Griffin.
